31 for 21: pt. 3

Our last PCS move was from Washington to California.  Honestly, the move was pretty smooth.  The drive down with three kids and one dog went better than expected.

The problem happened right after our pack out as the driver pulled out of our driveway.  I had my master bathroom designated as a no pack zone.  Our luggage and other belongings were in the bathroom.  Sadly, I also left my wedding ring in a closed bag inside a drawer.  This ring was beautiful!  He had it made when he was working in Bahrain.  It was white gold with a very pretty princess cut diamond.  The band for the ring was created just for it also.  Well, as I head up stairs to freshen up for dinner, I opened the drawer and opened the bag and half the ring was missing!  One of the packers took off with the ring…not the band, but the ring that had the princess cut diamond on it!  What made the situation worse was the fact this happened late Friday night.  All I was able to do was call base security and filed a police report.

When Monday came, I called EVERYONE that was involved with this move.  The moving company wanted no part in the matter.  In fact, it took over a year for us to resolve it in their favor.  According to them, I had no proof it was stolen or that I was probably lying about it.  The military didn’t cover it because they will not cover high value items.  So, by the time I finally decided to claim it on our insurance, they denied it also, because the claim is supposed to be filed within 90 days after the incident…not after a year Sad smile

So, today, at this very moment I still do not have this ring.  I still have our original wedding ring, but the stolen one was a little bit more special because he designed the ring just for me.

Moral of this story is this:  DO NOT HAVE YOUR MOVERS PICK UP YOUR THINGS ON A FRIDAY!  BECAUSE NOTHING WILL HAPPEN OVER THE WEEKEND…

I can only hope for a very smooth and final PCS move this time around!

Are there any other horror stories out there beside mine???

TIME...Time...time

Oh where has the time gone? It has been so long since I abandoned my lovely blog, but I'm glad to say that we're back...I'm back! I have to admit that I've had Internet now for a week, but once you're away from the computer, my need to blog and facebook and even email went down the drain. I'm just now getting back into the groove of things.

The move was a little stressful but not too bad. I don't think moving will ever get any easier. No matter how much I prepare for the movers to arrive, it's when they drop off the boxes that drive me into craziness. And every time I move, there seems to be one more extra person moving with us. Last time, it was Lillian. This time it was my dog, Maxie. 3 children, 2 dogs, and 2 adults...we need more supervision!

Also, the week we moved in was the week that Katie started school. Third Grade! She just recently had to make a classroom switch because there were 29 kids in her classroom and they are only allowed 28. She volunteered to go to another classroom, a room where her best friend is in. So, far ... so, good! I figured if they were going to move her she might as well pick a classroom that she wanted to be in and they let her. This year, the school grew a lot. There were many school closures where we are and people moving around, so now the classrooms are much bigger than they have been. I hope and pray for patience from both students and teachers this year!

I think the last time I updated, I mentioned that Lillian was really walking. Well, she's just getting better and better by the day! Today, she was chasing...well, more like tottling after Charlie in the house. Normally, I don't approve of running around, but it was really cute to see her going after him and hearing both of them laughing. Now, the only thing I really want to work on is the hair pulling. Lillian is a little brute ... not a princess. She loves to rough house and tackle, I worry that she will over power her big brother one day. I will have to wait and see. However, I've noticed that she is also becoming my little dancer. I hope she has moves like her momma :)

I will have to update more tomorrow. Just thought I would add that Facebook is great!

A short hiatus

I am moving...but not far!

The family is moving onto base housing on Travis AFB, so we've been busy! Today the packers are here to load the truck.

So, please everyone pray for patience, because I need it!

2010

It is official.  We are actually going to be here in Northern Cali until 2010!  This to me is wonderful news, because when we got here in August we were under the impression that our stay would be less than a year.  However, those plans have changed.

Why am I so excited?  Maybe just maybe, because Katie has been to four schools in 3 years and she doesn't want to move to another school just yet, we can continue our Physical and Developmental Therapies for Lillian and not have a big break, and it would be nice to just stay put and not have to make a big move for a while.

Photos and pictures will be going up on my walls this weekend :)  I can finally call it home for now.
