The person behind Negro History Week was Dr. Carter G. Woodson. A son of two former slaves. He began high school at the age of 20 and went on to college and received his PhD from Harvard! He noticed that history books ignored the roles of Black people and when they were depicted, they were often used in a negative or inferior role in history. Thus, is the beginning of Negro History Week. His intentions were to bring attention to the contributions of Black Americans in history!
Thank you Dr. Woodson for all you have done!
