Date Night

Last night I had a Date Night and it wasn't with my husband!

Last night I surprised Katie by telling her that we were going to have a girls night out. Just me and her! She and I haven't had a night out together in such a long time, and it was worth it. We went to see the new Harry Potter movie, which was great! I treated her to a large popcorn, large soda(yes...bad mommy) and a box of m & m's (my favorite).

Like I said earlier, it's been a long time that she and I spent time together. I think sometimes I forget that she still needs her mommy. She is the oldest of my 3 and therefore has the most responsibility. But she is only 8. And an 8 year old still needs that one on one attention. In fact, I think they probably crave it. For her, just having me to herself is one of her favorite things. She doesn't have to compete with the boy and the baby. She has my undivided attention. She can talk to me without any interruptions (I know because she talked nonstop after the movie on our drive home).

But the best thing about our time together is seeing her smile. Seeing how happy she is. Knowing she is loved. For me, her mom, that's the best treat.

So, we decided today that our new adventure together will be reading the Harry Potter books. I think our new one on one time will create happy and long lasting memories...for me :)

  4. That's awesome. My Momma did that with each of her 5 kids (I have no idea how), and to this day, we all still have lasting memories of those dates :)

  6. I love to do date nights with our 6 year old. She really misses the time she used to have alone with me before her little sister was born and it's a fun special time for us. Sometimes it's an evening trip to a store or out for ice cream (or a saturday afternoon at paint your own pottery) but it's a special bonding treat for both of us. Good for you to take special one-on-one time with your kids, it's a gift they will always appreciate and remember.
